Book Launch of "Silencing The Lambs"

As a performance marketer with a passion for innovative challenges, I recently had the opportunity to assist emerging author Sajeet Saudagar in launching his debut novel, Silencing The Lambs. This project not only allowed me to apply my marketing skills in a new domain but also to collaborate with a talented team, including the first person who agreed to undertake this project alongside me, Sylvia Lim and the Malaysian-based digital marketing and advertising startup, Nude Media.

Project Overview

Silencing The Lambs is a gripping historical mystery that weaves a narrative connecting the grandeur of the Mauryan Empire with the vibrant streets of modern Kuala Lumpur. The protagonist, Alia Merican, embarks on a perilous journey filled with ancient secrets and contemporary treachery, making for a compelling read that has already captivated many.

The Launch Strategy

Understanding that this was Sajeet’s first book launch, we approached the project with a comprehensive strategy:

  1. Brainstorming Sessions: We gathered insights and crafted a cohesive marketing plan that leveraged each member's strengths.

  2. Pre-launch Event: We secured a unique venue—the Writers Room at The Majestic Hotel KL, which hadn’t been opened in over 60 years. Collaborating with Nude Media, we developed captivating creative content and engaged key opinion leaders (KOLs) who specialize in book reviews. The pre-launch event was a tremendous success, generating positive buzz and feedback as we distributed preview versions of the book.

  3. Official Launch: For the book launch, we partnered with British Raj restaurant in PJ, utilizing the same media team and KOLs from the pre-launch. The event exceeded our expectations, filling the venue to capacity with enthusiastic attendees eager to celebrate the book’s release.

Results

The launch efforts paid off tremendously. To date, over 1,000 copies of Silencing The Lambs have been sold, and the book is available in major bookstores like MPH, as well as in smaller local shops.

Conclusion

This project not only honed my marketing expertise in a new arena but also reinforced the power of collaboration and creative problem-solving. I even got the opportunity to see how my partner in the project managed KOLs. I look forward to applying these learnings to future marketing challenges and supporting more authors in their journeys.
